Wellness and Preventative Care
We strive to provide preventative health care plans that are specifically tailored to your pet and lifestyle knowing that each pet is an individual. Since animals age more quickly than people do, we are advocates of annual wellness exams for young animals and biannual for geriatric pets (older than 7 years old) in order to maintain maximum health with preventative care.
General Surgery
Our goal is to make every anesthetic procedure as safe and stress free as possible for both you and your pet. We schedule in low volume so we can give each patient detailed individualized attention. We ensure our patients are good candidates for anesthesia with recent exams and blood work. We utilize a multi-modal approach to decrease the stress of being hospitalized and help control pain. We will provide acupuncture therapy, local nerve blocks, western and eastern pharmaceuticals, cold laser, and pheromone therapies to ensure the best possible experience for every individual patient.
Examples of general surgery are: Spay (ovariohysterectomy), neuter (castration), lump removal and biopsy, laceration/wound repair, exploratory surgery (gastrointestinal foreign bodies), cystotomy (removal of bladder stones), and skin biopsy.
Dentistry
Just like humans, pets are susceptible to periodontal disease. In fact, pets are even more so than us. The only way to prevent or detect periodontal disease early is through regular veterinary dental cleanings under anesthesia.
Many of our pets will have severe periodontal disease without showing obvious outward signs of pain or discomfort. Left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to chronic infection, inflammation, and pain. Our dental services include:
Our dental services include:
- Routine dental cleanings and oral evaluation
- Full mouth dental X-rays
- Dental extractions
- Biopsy of tissues if indicated
When your pet is ready to go home, we will share before and after photos, x-ray findings, and tips to continue dental care at home.
Digital Radiography
All of our radiographs (x-rays) are taken digitally with top of the line modern equipment. This allows us to work efficiently and safely with your pet and produces high quality diagnostic images.
All of our radiographs will be reviewed by our veterinarians and a board certified veterinary radiologist.
Laboratory Services
Blood testing, fecal analysis, urinalysis, histopathology, and cytology.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a medical therapy that originated in China more than 4,000 years ago. The first veterinary acupuncture text books appeared around 250 BCE. Acupuncture is an important part in Traditional Chinese Medicine along with nutritional therapy, herbal therapy, and lifestyle recommendations. Traditional Chinese Medicine attributes disease to imbalances in the body. Acupuncture needles inserted appropriately can help correct these imbalances allowing patients to heal more rapidly. Acupuncture needles stimulate the body’s nervous system, regulating blood circulation, and releasing neuro-chemicals that help alleviate pain. The benefits of acupuncture can be immediate, or they can be realized over several days/treatments depending on the underlying condition. Acupuncture broadens our abilities to treat certain ailments in your pets.
Herbal therapy and Nutrition Counseling
Herbal medicine is the use of botanical compounds, either as single components or as part of a multiple component botanical medical remedy. Traditional Chinese medicine regards each of the hundreds of herbs used as having unique energetic properties. These properties are considered when creating an herbal formula. Blended in the proper balance and administered correctly, herbal formulas can be used short or long term to improve and sustain health. Herbs work on many levels within an animal’s system, allowing the animal’s innate healing powers to come into play. Many herbs have almost drug-like effects and can improve digestion, reduce inflammation, enhance healing, stop bleeding, fight infection, clear up urinary tract infections, clear sinuses, and so on. For the most part, herbs are safe to use. Chinese herbal medicine is often used in conjunction with acupuncture.
Western Herbal Medicine is based on a European tradition of using plants and herbs to aid in the healing process. These herbs are usually prescribed in a liquid (tincture) or capsule form.
Nutraceuticals are compounds that have been isolated and concentrated pharmaceutically from food materials. Vitamins, minerals, amino acids, glucosamine sulfate, and chondroitin sulfate are examples. These compounds are extremely safe when used properly and can be of far greater benefit to the body than when taken in their whole food form, mainly due to the increased concentration.
In traditional Chinese medicine, herbs and food follow the same principles and are often from the same sources. Specific foods are prescribed based on an individual’s current disharmony or disease process. On a daily basis this promotes better health for an individual and aids in the treatment and prevention of disease. In many cases, complete resolution of clinical signs cannot be achieved without changes in the diet. Selection of foods is based on the energetics of the food, the species/breed being treated, food preferences & aversions, the current disharmony and geographical location.
Although most foods, herbs, and nutraceuticals are safe for pets there can be adverse reactions with other medication and some toxicities, so always consult your veterinarian before giving medications to your pet.
Laser Therapy
Cold laser therapy is widely used for a variety of painful conditions and offers pain relief and reduced healing times with no negative side effects. Utilizing laser therapy for pain management allows us to offer a non-pharmaceutical and non-invasive treatment option for our patients.
Massage Therapy
Massage offers a drug-free, non-invasive approach to wellness based on the body’s natural ability to heal itself. It not only helps us and our animals relax, it can also support better immune function, improve movement, and help with anxiety.
Some of the many benefits include:
- Increased Circulation
- Stimulation of the lymph system, the body’s natural defense against toxic invaders
- Release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkiller
- Improved range of motion, increased joint flexibility, and decreased discomfort
- Relaxation of injured and overused muscles
- Reduced muscle spasms and cramping
- Reduced post-operative adhesion and edema, as well as reduced scar tissue
- Improved Digestion
